English
At Mabe school we follow the Talk4Writing writing process. This is a three step based process that usually takes place over a period of 3 weeks.
During the first part of the process - the Imitate phase- we explore and learn a model text. This part of the process allows children to 'Talk the text' so that they can understand the text structure, features and vocabulary. Your child may bring home a copy of the Talk4Writing text to learn at this point in the unit.
During the second part of the process - the Innovate phase - we work together to create our own class version of the text. This part of the process allows the children to practise the skills needed to develop their writing.
During the final part of the process - the Invent phase - the children are able to use all their skills they have learnt to create their own text.
Reading
It is important that the children continue to pracitse their reading daily. To support the children in their reading development we use a programme called Accelerated Reader. Accelerated Reader targets both childrens' reading fluency and comprehension. The children will be able to choose books from within a set book band (this level is based on both their fluency and comprehension skills) and once they have read their book they can take an AR quiz in school. AR quizzes encourage children to earn points and work towards their targets.
Maths
We follow the national White Rose mastery programme for maths. We work on building up our fluency and reasoning skills each maths lesson. We use lots of resources to practically explore numbers.
Multiplication Facts
To support Puffin class in learning their multiplication facts we use TTRockstars. All of the children have logins - these can be found stuck in the front of the children's reading records.
It is particularly important that the children practise their times tables to support their overall maths fluency. The year 4 pupils will also take part in the government Multiplication Table Check in June.
